 A Step by Step Guide

To alleviate the adding of pollutants, equipment used within cleanrooms such as scales, balances and tank weighing systems are required to emit only limited amounts of particulates into the air. Choosing the correct weighing equipment for your facility is therefore essential to help keep cleanroom environments within governmental, GLP/GMP and other regulatory standards.

When it comes down to choosing what scale is right for your cleanroom environment you must define certain criteria and understand the area of installation.

Use the resin selection guide* below to compare the physical and chemical properties of the plastics used in our tanks, and to determine which of the resins is best suited to your application. For applications where a plastic resin is not suitable, select one of our stainless steel tanks.

Please note that both operating conditions and type of chemical can decrease maximum service temperature. Continuous service temperatures in ranges above ambient can affect tanks in at least two ways: (1) the useful life of the tank may be shortened; and (2) the ability of the container to maintain its shape may decrease, perhaps resulting in distortion.

 The Electrode Pair

Sensing and reference half-cell electrodes must be used together to complete the pH circuit. Most of the electrodes in our catalog are combination electrodes that house both half-cells in a single probe.

Sensing Half-Cells

Sensing half-cells are the measuring portion of the electrode system and contain the pH-sensitive membrane.

Peristaltic pumps, which offer contamination-free pumping and relatively low maintenance, are increasing in popularity. However, when designing or purchasing peristaltic pump systems, many engineers overlook an important component—peristaltic pump tubing.

Tubing is an essential part of a peristaltic pump; however, end-users too often unknowingly select a tubing formulation that is unsuitable for their applications. Some end users even substitute general-purpose transfer tubing for peristaltic pump tubing, often with disastrous results. Mixer Applications

• Laboratory Mixers are available with permanent magnet, universal, or air-drive motors. Choose from different mixer mounts for mounting on tanks or stands. Our variety of impellers and paddles lend versatility to the mixer you select.
• Industrial Mixers are available with electric or air-driven motors for up to 1/2 hp. Fixed- or variable-speed and direct- or gear-driven options are available. Select from external drum lip clamp, C-clamp, or 2" NPT(M) mounting style.

Stirrer Types

• Compact: Small, colorful units fit in any lab.
• Specialty: An illuminating stirrer and a modular unit that offers remote immersible mixing.
• Multiposition: Synchronously stir a number of vessels at the same time. Some models let you stir different vessels at different speeds.
• Multiposition/Immersible: Immersible sitters can be placed completely underwater for constant temperature operations. Ideal for use in incubators.

Selection Considerations

• Submersible or BOD probes. Submersible probes are ideal for field use while the BOD probes, available for certain meters, are more appropriate for laboratory use.
• Waterproof housing. Meters range from indoor use, to splashproof, to submersible.
• Automatic barometric pressure compensation. The solubility of oxygen decreases with an increase in altitude (or reduction of atmospheric pressure). Some meters have a built-in barometer to make this adjustment automatically.
• Manual barometric pressure compensation. Meters allow you to enter the barometric pressure manually.
